Laborer – Brush Removal/Thinning

Minimum qualifications:

Valid Class C Nevada Drivers License (provide current DMV printout)
Must be minimum 17 years of age
High School Diploma, GED or 3.0 GPA (provide documentation)
Must have own transportation
Pass pre-employment drug screen, physical exam and Pack test

Experience in landscaping, wildland firefighting and fuels management desirable
This is a temporary seasonal position, open until filled

JOB DESCRIPTION

LABORER-BRUSH DISPOSAL

 

DEFINITION: This is a temporary seasonal position, not to exceed 1039 hours, expected to last approximately 3 months. There are no benefits with this position.

 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: The following is a partial description of job duties and is not all inclusive:

  • Removal of vegetation debris and refuse in the act of fuel reduction to prevent and slow the spread of fires
  • Grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, weed and vegetation cleanup and abatement
  • May involve the safe handling of chemical compounds and operating noxious weed spraying equipment
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance of equipment and tools
  • Operate chain saws and other power tools to clear brush and yard debris
  • May assist in burning piles of brush
  • May assist in fire suppression, fire prevention and education pre-suppression, equipment and facility maintenance, project activities. Will also provide limited assistance in medical, hazardous material and structure fire emergencies.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY:

  • Must have the knowledge and skill to use and operate common hand tools and simple power equipment
  • Follow general instructions to complete tasks pertaining to vegetation removal
  • Must be able to complete forms and time cards

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Class C Nevada Drivers License (submission of driving record at time of application required)
  • Must be minimum 17 years of age
  • High School diploma, GED certificate or 3.0 GPA if still enrolled in high school
  • Must have own transportation
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in landscaping, wildland firefighting or fuels management desirable

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use tools and equipment for prolonged periods. Strength and stamina to bend, stoop, sit and stand for long periods of time. Strength and dexterity to operate small, medium and heavy equipment. Strength and stamina to endure standing and working for long periods of time and in extreme weather conditions. Dexterity and vision to observe oncoming hazards and react quickly to emergency situations. Some heavy lifting (over 75 pounds) is occasionally required.
  • Must successfully pass the District Pack Test

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed under the following conditions. Position functions outdoors on roads, highway areas and public and private lands. Position may include work in extreme weather conditions such as heat or cold. Position may occasionally be required to operate heavy machinery in hazardous environments. Environment is generally dirty, with prolonged exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, noise or odors. Frequent interruptions to planned work activities occur.
