FUELS MANAGEMENT PROGRAM The Central Lyon County Fire Protection District is pleased to announce the introduction of a new fuels management program. The program was made possible by a grant through the Federal Government and the Nevada Division of Forestry, which was part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. This two-part program will significantly reduce the threat to homes in high fire hazard areas, as well as assist homeowners in clearing their yards and neighborhoods of yard debris. Part one of this new program will be used to assist residents in high fire hazard areas to create defensible space around their homes to help protect them from wildfire. When requested, a Fuels Management Official will conduct a survey of the property to assess the needs of the property owner. A time will be scheduled and a crew will arrive and mitigate the fuels problem. They will create defensible space around the residence to help protect it from wildfire and haul the debris away at no charge to the property owner. Part two of the program involves the free use of a dump trailer by residents to get rid of yard debris. Through the grant, Central Lyon County Fire District was able to purchase two dump trailers for use by the public. The Fuels Management Team will deliver a trailer to your home for you to fill with yard debris. The debris shall consist of strictly woody, leafy vegetative material. Appliances, hazardous materials, auto parts, construction material, lumber, metals, plastic, rocks, concrete, animals, or any other man-made materials will not be accepted. A Fuels Management member will pick the trailer up and dispose of the material at no charge to the property owner. If there is any prohibited material in the trailer at the time of pickup, the team member will dump the trailer where it sits and remove the trailer. We at Central Lyon County Fire District see this as a great opportunity to serve the community. The Central Lyon County Fire District Fuels Management team looks forward to assisting citizens in making their homes safer from the threat of wildfire and helping the community clear their property of yard debris. The Central Lyon County Fire District is an equal opportunity employer.
