Burn Season Safety Reminders
Before burning, please take a few moments to review these important safety tips to help protect our community:
- Check daily burn status before lighting any fire. Conditions can change quickly due to weather and air quality.
- Burn only clean, dry vegetation. Trash, plastics, and construction debris are not allowed.
- Never leave your burn pile unattended. An adult must be present and have the means to extinguish the fire at all times.
- Keep water, tools, or a hose nearby for immediate control if the fire begins to spread.
- Maintain clearances of at least 10 feet around your burn area, free of grass, brush, and other flammable material.
- Do Not burning during windy conditions to prevent embers from escaping your control.
- Completely extinguish your fire before leaving the area—douse with water and stir until cold to the touch.
Your cooperation helps prevent unwanted fires and keeps our first responders available for emergencies.
Important Message!
Thank you for your patience as we work to dial in our new burn permit platform on Community Connect.
When you are filling in your information, please make every attempt to use the drop-down menu to choose your address, Google might need verification if they do not recognize the address, this could take up to 48 hrs. If you do need address verification, you will receive an email once your address gets verified, from there you will be able to log back in and continue to the Burn Permit section and apply for your permit.
If the Burn Permit says that it is “active” then it is a permissible burn day. If it shows there is a “Burn Ban” then burning is closed and it is not a permissible burn day.
Also note that if it is not a permissible burn day, you will not be able to apply for a burn permit until the “Burn Ban” is lifted.
For more information about burn regulations or to access your permit, visit our Community Connect page or contact Central Lyon Fire at (775-246-6209).
Thank you for doing your part to keep Lyon County safe and fire-ready!
